Katamari Damacy Motion Title Sequence
Katamari Damacy, created by Keita Takahashi and released by Namco in 2004, is a beloved action puzzle game known for its weird humor, bright style, and simple but addictive mechanics. The game follows the Prince, who is sent by his father, the King of All Cosmos, to remake the stars after the King accidentally wipes them out. Players roll a sticky ball called a katamari, picking up anything in its path and growing it from tiny objects all the way to huge environments.
PROJECT: Motion title sequence
SOFTWARE: After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator
STYLE: Fun & quirky
For this project, I designed a motion typography end credits sequence that plays into the game’s fun and quirky space setting in a videogame end credits style. The credits drift upward into a starry sky to feel like they are floating into space, as the Prince rolls his katamari through parts of the sequence to collect some of the names just like in the game. Bright colors, soft wobbly movement, and a playful rhythm help keep the lighthearted spirit of the Katamari Damacy while giving the ending a fresh and engaging visual style.
